AUBURNDALE, Florida. (March 18, 2022) – The Rutgers University-Camden baseball team battled back from a 6-3 deficit, tying the game in the top of the ninth inning, only to watch Ripon College score the winning run in the bottom of the ninth here Friday.
The Red Hawks used back-to-back walks and an RBI double by senior shortstop Nick Terrell to pull out a 7-6 victory in the bottom of the ninth.
Ripon's winning rally came moments after Rutgers-Camden tied the game in the top of the ninth on an RBI single from senior left fielder
Garrett Warner. Warner plated sophomore
Chase Cooper, who was inserted as a pinch-runner following a double by freshman catcher
Andrew Brown.
Rutgers-Camden (7-7) scored a pair of runs in the top of the first on a two-run home run by junior first baseman
Jack Murphy. It was Murphy's sixth home run of the season.
Ripon, however, bounced back with three runs in the bottom of the first and eventually built a 6-3 lead after scoring a sixth-inning run. The Scarlet Raptors countered with two runs in the seventh, sparked by a leadoff double from junior designated hitter
Jake Guglielmi and a single from Murphy. Brown plated one run with a fielder's choice and senior shortstop
Jesse Gerdes singled home Murphy.
The Raptors tied the game in the ninth before Ripon pulled out the win to complete its spring break trip with a 4-5 record. Terrell finished the game going 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs to lead the Red Hawks' 13-hit attack.
Rutgers-Camden collected 12 hits, with Warner going 3-for-5 to lead the way. Guglielmi, Murphy and Brown all went 2-for-4, with Guglielmi scoring three times and Murphy scoring twice. Murphy and Warner both had two RBIs.
