CAMDEN, N.J. (April 16, 2022) – The Ramapo College softball team pounded out 22 hits in its New Jersey Athletic Conference doubleheader here Saturday as it swept Rutgers University-Camden.
The Roadrunners won the fist game, 7-6, and took a five-inning nightcap, 13-3.
The losses drop the Scarlet Raptors to 6-13 overall and 3-7 in the NJAC. Ramapo improves to 17-6 and 8-2.
The Scarlet Raptors play another NJAC doubleheader Tuesday at 3 p.m. when they visit The College of New Jersey.
Ramapo 7, Rutgers-Camden 6
The Scarlet Raptors took an early three-run lead on three hits in the bottom of the second inning, including a two-run single by freshman right fielder
Emily Dubiago. The third run was driven home on a fielder's choice by senior center fielder
Kimmy Musarra.
Ramapo struck back quickly with five runs on four hits in the third inning, including a trio of ground-rule doubles. Second baseman Carli Egan drove home two of those runs with a ground-rule double.
The Roadrunners added two more runs in the fourth inning on a two-run home run by junior catcher Alexis Corra.
Rutgers-Camden scored three unearned runs in the fifth inning on two errors, two walks, an RBI hit batsman (junior second baseman
Cate Petrucelli) and an RBI single by sophomore left fielder
Alexa McNee.
Ramapo sophomore hurler Mahogany Wheeler (7-5) stranded the tying run at third base in the seventh inning to nail down the win. She tossed a six-hitter, allowing three walks and six runs (three unearned), while striking out six.
Freshman third baseman
Luci Hutchinson and McNee had two hits apiece for the Scarlet Raptors.
Ramapo 13, Rutgers-Camden 3 (5 innings)
The Roadrunners ripped 14 hits, including home runs by Corra and Wheeler and shortstop Krista Verrino, as they won a shortened game stopped after five innings. Ramapo scored seven runs in the fifth inning, capped by Wheeler's three-run home run, to end the game by the eight-run mercy rule.
Verrino finished with five RBIs, while Corra and Wheeler both added three to support freshman pitcher Marissa DiPaolo. She allowed three hits and three unearned runs while walking four and striking out eight. She raised her record to 9-1.

Kimmy Musarra went 2-for-3 for the Raptors, while senior designated player
Alexis Schauer had a three-run double in the third inning.
