MIDDLETOWN, Penn. (Sept. 17, 2022) – The Rutgers University-Camden volleyball team found a great way to snap a three-match skid here Saturday as it swept a tri-match against host Penn State-Harrisburg and visiting Wilkes University, winning 3-0 in both matches.
The Scarlet Raptors beat PSU-Harrisburg, 25-14, 25-18 and 25-15. They toppled Wilkes, 25-14, 25-22 and 25-20.
The wins lift Camden to 3-5. Penn State-Harrisburg, which entered the day with a three-match winning streak, ended up beating Wilkes, 3-1, in the final match of the day to improve to 6-4.
Wilkes fell to 1-8 with its eighth straight loss.
Rutgers-Camden returns to action Tuesday with a 7 p.m. New Jersey Athletic Conference match at William Paterson University.
Rutgers-Camden 3, Penn State-Harrisburg 0
The Scarlet Raptors went ahead to stay in the opening set, 2-1, on a kill by freshman
Ciera McCrae and stretched their lead to 18-9 on the way to their first-set victory.
In the second set, Rutgers-Camden broke on top, 4-0, and was never caught. The third set was tied at 4-4 before Rutgers-Camden ran off 10 straight points, including three on service aces by senior
Haley Novak.
Junior
Dyamond Free finished with 13 kills and a .600 hitting percentage, while junior
Erica Nebrich added 12 kills. Senior setter
Brinn Hassan collected 29 assists, two service aces and nine digs, while senior
Morgan Fox had a match-high 13 digs.
Novak finished with three aces, three digs, two assists and one kill and McCrea notched three kills, one block attempt and four digs.
Rutgers-Camden 3, Wilkes 0
In the first set of the second match, a Wilkes attack error snapped an 8-8 tie and sparked the Scarlet Raptors to their win. The teams were tied at 12-12 in the second set when another error by the Colonels gave Rutgers-Camden the lead for good in a set that was wrapped up by a kill from junior
Isabella Choice.
Wilkes took a 1-0 lead in the third set before the Raptors tied the game and took the lead for good on an ace by Fox. McCrae wrapped up the match-clinching win with a kill.
Free collected 12 kills and a .348 hitting percentage in the second match, while both Nebrich and Choice added eight kills. Hassan collected 29 assists for the second straight match, while Fox had 11 digs and four service aces.
