Raptor golfters finish fifth at Lebanon Valley Invitational

L-R): Head Coach Bob Cardea, David Gibson, Ryan Lewbart, Patrick DeMareo, Robert Wolfram, Reid Walker
LEBANON VALLEY, Pa. (March 27, 2023) – It was anything but ideal golf weather, but the Rutgers University-Camden Scarlet Raptors made the most of poor conditions as they opened their spring season here Monday at the Lebanon Valley Invitational.

On a day that featured rain, cold and a 30-minute lightning delay, and playing without one of its top golfers who was unable to attend, the Rutgers-Camden team finished fifth out of 18 teams, shooting a 335 score to finish 26 strokes behind winning University of Scranton.

The invitational, hosted by Lebanon Valley College, was played at the Par 72, 6,562-yard Lebanon Country Club.

The Scarlet Raptors were led by senior Patrick DeMareo, who shot a 74 to tie with three other golfers, one stroke back of medalist Devin Cooper of Eastern University. DeMareo lost second place on a match of cards.

The 90-golfer field also saw senior David Gibson shoot a round of 80 to tie for 16th place, while freshman Reid Walker carded an 86 to tie for 34th. Senior Ryan Lewbart tied for 70th with a 95, while senior Robert Wolfram finished 86th with a round of 106.

The Scarlet Raptors were missing freshman Pearse Lee, who averaged an 85 in his first semester last fall.

Rutgers-Camden returns to action Monday, when it hosts its own RU-Camden Scarlet Raptor Spring Invitational. The event, which include Rosemont College, William Paterson University, Stockton University and Neumann University, in addition to the Raptors, will be held at the Par 71, 6,602-yard Rancocas Golf Club in Willingboro.
