Raptors' rally falls short in NJAC loss at Ramapo

Box Score MAHWAH, N.J. – A furious comeback fell just short for the Rutgers University-Camden women's basketball team as the Scarlet Raptors lost to Ramapo College, 48-43, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Wednesday night.

The Raptors, who trailed by as many as 15 points in the first half, sliced the gap to 43-42 on a three-pointer by junior guard Alex Gravinese (Audubon, NJ/Audubon) with 1:35 remaining in the game, but the Roadrunners hung on for the win. Ramapo improves to 4-4 overall and 2-1 in the NJAC, while Rutgers-Camden falls to 1-3 and 0-2.

Ramapo has won the last four games in the series, but Rutgers-Camden holds a 31-20 all-time lead.

The Roadrunners held a 15-point lead on three occasions in the opening half, the last at 27-12, before taking a 27-13 advantage into the halftime locker room. They led by a 41-27 score in the second half before the Raptors rattled off 12 straight points, including four by sophomore forward Michelle Onu (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) to cut the gap to 41-39 with 3:43 remaining.

Ramapo received 15 points and seven rebounds from senior forward Micaela Moore (Lindenwold, NJ/Lindenwold), while senior guard Anna Fucci (West Orange, NJ/West Orange) added 13 points, six rebounds and four assists.

Gravinese finished with nine points and seven rebounds for the Scarlet Raptors, while Onu had eight points and a game-high 15 rebounds.

Junior guard Monica Burch (Lawnside, NJ/Sterling) collected a game-high seven assists for Rutgers-Camden.
Ramapo shot 18-for-57 (31.6 percent) from the floor, while Rutgers-Camden was 15-for-57 (26.3).

The Scarlet Raptors return home Saturday for a 1 p.m. NJAC game against The College of New Jersey.
