Box Score CAMDEN, N.J. – The College of New Jersey women's basketball team went on a 32-11 run midway through the second half as it rallied past Rutgers University-Camden, 73-59, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Saturday afternoon.
The Lions improve to 5-2 overall and 4-0 in the NJAC with their 20th consecutive win against the Scarlet Raptors. TCNJ leads the all-time series, 52-7.
Rutgers-Camden falls to 1-4 and 0-3.
Leading, 36-33, at the half, the Scarlet Raptors increased their lead to five points on a layup by junior guard
Alex Gravinese (Audubon, NJ/Audubon) to open the second half. They held a 40-37 advantage before TCNJ started its big run.
The Lions took the lead for good, 44-43, on a jumper by senior guard
Kelly Roddy (Belmar, NJ/St. Rose), then quickly tacked on a three-pointer by sophomore guard
Angelica Esposito (Lincroft, NJ/St. John Vianney). By the time they finished their run, they increased their lead to a game-high 18 points (69-51).
Junior guard
Kelly Coughlin (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) notched 21 points for TCNJ, while Roddy added 12. Senior center
Liz West (Monmouth Beach, NJ/Shore Regional) and junior guard
Kylie O'Donnell (Magnolia, NJ/Sterling) collected 10 points apiece for the Lions. O'Donnell also added a game-high seven assists.
Rutgers-Camden received game-high totals of 23 points and 14 rebounds from sophomore forward
Michelle Onu (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East). It was the third double-double of the season for Onu and the seventh of her career. Her 23 points also set a career high, passing the 22 she scored against New Jersey City University on Jan. 9, 2013.
A pair of guards, junior
Monica Burch (Lawnside, NJ/Sterling) and sophomore
Krystle Cook (Philadelphia, PA/Girard College) added 11 points apiece for the Scarlet Raptors. Burch also had five assists and a game-high five steals.
Junior center/forward
Tanjae Lewis (Magnolia, NJ/Sterling) notched 11 rebounds for Rutgers-Camden.
Gravinese led the Raptors with six assists, while adding eight points.
Rutgers-Camden held a 45-39 advantage off the boards, but TCNJ shot 26-for-56 from the floor (46.4 percent), compared to the Scarlet Raptors' 23-for-73 (31.5). Rutgers-Camden was only 4-for-18 (22.2) from three-point range.
The Scarlet Raptors return to action Tuesday with a 6 p.m. game at The College of Staten Island.
