Box Score CAMDEN, N.J. (Jan. 18, 2014) – The William Paterson University women's basketball team raced to a quick 21-4 lead, built a 27-point margin by halftime and went on to defeat Rutgers University-Camden, 88-59, here Saturday afternoon in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game.
The Pioneers improve to 9-7 overall and 6-3 in the NJAC with their fourth straight victory.
The Scarlet Raptors fall to 3-10 overall and 0-9 in the conference.
Paterson has won 15 straight games against Rutgers-Camden and leads the all-time series, 46-9.
The Pioneers placed eight players in the scoring column in the first half on their way to a 48-21 lead, paced by senior guard
Floriana Borova (Cresskill, NJ/Cresskill). Borova, who entered the game leading the NJAC in scoring with an 18.1 average, notched 14 points and three assists in the opening 20 minutes.
Senior forward
Dana Jeter (Hamilton, NJ/Steiner) scored 12 first-half points, while senior guard
Kristine Jackiewicz (Quakertown, NJ/Quakertown) notched seven and sophomore guard
Brittany Harden (Millville, NJ/Sacred Heart) had six points, four assists, two blocks and four steals.
Junior guard
Alex Gravinese (Audubon, NJ/Audubon) had nine first-half points for Rutgers-Camden, which committed 19 turnovers before halftime and shot 28.0 percent (7-for-25) from the floor. Paterson shot 51.4 (18-for-35) from the floor in the opening half, including 6-for-7 (85.7) from three-point range.
Jackiewicz finished with 18 points for the Pioneers, while Borova scored 16, Jeter tallied 14 and Harden added 10. Jackiewicz also added a team-high five rebounds, while Borova and Harden both dished off six assists to tie for game-high honors. Borova had a game-high six steals.
Rutgers-Camden received 20 points from Gravinese, setting her Scarlet Raptor career high. Her previous high was 18 points against Rutgers-Newark on Jan. 6.
Sophomore guard
Falecia Galindez (Camden, NJ/Pennsauken Tech) added 13 points for the Raptors, while sophomore forward
Michelle Onu (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) had a game-high 10 rebounds and added nine points and three steals. Both Onu and Galindez tied for team-high honors with three assists apiece.
Junior center/forward
Tanjae Lewis (Magnolia, NJ/Sterling) added nine points and eight boards for Rutgers-Camden.
For the game, Paterson shot 46.7 percent (35-for-75), including 7-for-15 (46.7) from three-point range, while Rutgers-Camden shot 40.4 (21-for-52). The Raptors held a 42-40 edge off the boards, but committed 31 turnovers to the Pioneers' 16.
The two teams return to NJAC action with 6 p.m. games on Wednesday. Rutgers-Camden visits Rutgers-Newark and William Paterson hosts The College of New Jersey.
