Box Score BRYN MAWR, Penn. – The Rutgers University-Camden women's basketball team scored the first 21 points of the game here Wednesday night and went on to race past Bryn Mawr College, 68-24, in a non-conference game.
The victory was the first of the season for the Scarlet Raptors, who improve to 1-2. The Owls fall to 0-3.
The Scarlet Raptors held the Owls off the scoreboard until 8:04 remaining in the first half, when freshman guard/forward
Sanam Sheriff (Ulsoor, India/Mallya Aditi International) hit a three-pointer for Bryn Mawr's first points.
By that time, the Scarlet Raptors already had six points apiece from freshman
Michelle Obasi (Camden, NJ/Camden Catholic) and senior
Tanjae Lewis (Magnolia, NJ/Sterling), a pair of forward/centers. Senior guard
Alex Gravinese (Audubon, NJ/Audubon) notched five of the Raptors' first 21 points, while junior guard
Krystle Cook (Philadelphia, PA/Girard College) had four.
By halftime, the Scarlet Raptors held a 30-8 lead on their way to the 45-point victory, their biggest win since a 61-14 romp over Bard on Dec. 7, 2011.
Gravinese finished the game with 18 points and five assists, while Obasi scored 16, Lewis netted 12 and Cook added 11 points, four assists and a four steals.
Freshman guard/forward
Cara Racobaldo (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) had a game-high six assists and five steals, while senior guard/forward
Irene Grimanis (Brooklawn, NJ/Gloucester), grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
The Scarlet Raptors held a 42-26 advantage off the boards and forced Bryn Mawr into 34 turnovers.
The Owls received 12 points and six rebounds from junior forward
Veronica Roux (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Township). Rutgers-Camden shot 42.5 percent from the floor (31-for-73), while Bryn Mawr shot 32.3 (10-for-31).
Rutgers-Camden returns to action Saturday when it begins New Jersey Athletic Conference play with a 3 p.m. game at William Paterson University.
