Box Score EWING, N.J. – The College of New Jersey women's basketball team placed four players in double figures and 11 players in he scoring column as the Lions raced past Rutgers University-Camden, 88-53, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference makeup game here Monday night.
The game was originally scheduled for Feb. 5, but was postponed when TCNJ lost power in the snowstorm that day.
The Lions, who are second in the NJAC standings, have won five straight games and improve to 16-6 overall and 12-3 in the conference.
Rutgers-Camden falls to 4-16 overall and 0-15 in the NJAC.
The Lions, who defeated the Scarlet Raptors 73-59 in Camden on Dec. 7, have won 21 consecutive games against the Scarlet Raptors and lead the all-time series, 53-7.
TCNJ jumped to a quick 10-2 lead and although the Scarlet Raptors managed to cut their deficit to 16-12, they never came closer to the Lions. By halftime, the home team was leading, 44-26, led by 11 points from senior guard
Tiffany DeTulio (Colts Neck, NJ/Colts Neck) and nine from sophomore guard
Angelica Esposito (Lincroft, NJ/St. John Vianney). The Lions placed seven players in the scoring column in the first half, and senior guard
Kelly Roddy (Belmar, NJ/St. Rose) had five steals at the break as TCNJ forced 13 turnovers in the opening 20 minutes.
Rutgers-Camden received six first-half points from junior guard
Alex Gravinese (Audubon, NJ/Audubon), hiking her career scoring output over 500 points between her freshman year at Rosemont College and her last two seasons with the Scarlet Raptors. Gravinese finished with a team-high 12 points to give her 509 for her career.
DeTulio and Esposito paced TCNJ with 14 points apiece, while Roddy netted 13 and junior guard
Kelly Coughlin (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) added 12.
Senior center/forward
Liz West (Monmouth Beach, NJ/Shore Regional) added eight points for the Lions and tied for game-high honors with eight rebounds, helping the Lions to a commanding 53-33 advantage off the boards. West also added a game-high five assists, while Roddy finished with a game high of five steals.
TCNJ shot 33-for-72 (45.8 percent) from the floor, including 13-for-31 (41.9) from three-point range. Rutgers-Camden shot 18-for-61 (29.5) from the floor and 8-for-24 (33.3) from beyond the arc.
In addition to Gravinese, the Scarlet Raptors received 10 points from sophomore guard
Krystle Cook (Philadelphia, PA/Girard College) and eight from junior center/forward
Tanjae Lewis (Magnolia, NJ/Sterling).
Senior center
Tina Croxton (Deptford, NJ/Deptford) added seven points and six rebounds, while sophomore forward
Michelle Onu (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) collected six points and tied the Lions' West with a game-high eight rebounds. Onu and Croxton also accounted for the Raptors' two blocked shots, with one apiece.
Rutgers-Camden returns to action Saturday with a 3 p.m. NJAC game at Kean University.
