Box Score

UNION, N.J. – Freshman center Najha Treadwell (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) scored a game-high 26 points, added 11 rebounds for a double-double and contributed two blocked shots, one assist and one steal to power the Kean University women's basketball team over Rutgers University-Camden, 68-52, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Saturday afternoon.

The Cougars improve to 12-8 overall and 7-6 in the NJAC with their fourth straight win over the Scarlet Raptors and 19th in their last 20 games. Kean leads the all-time series, 45-18.

Rutgers-Camden, which had won four of its last five games, all coming in NJAC action, falls to 8-12 overall and 4-9 in the conference.

The teams were tied, 27-27, at halftime, but the Cougars ran off six straight points to open the second half. A layup by junior forward Jazmine Davis (Tinton Falls, NJ/Monmouth Regional) put the Cougars ahead to stay. With Kean leading, 36-30, the Cougars opened up the game with 11 straight points and the Scarlet Raptors never got closer than 13 points (64-51) the rest of the way.

In addition to Treadwell's double-double, Davis added a double-double of 12 points and a game-high 15 rebounds for Kean. Sophomore guard Jaquetta Owens (Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield Tech) also scored 12 points and a game-high seven assists for the Cougars, who shot 29-for-72 (40.3 percent) from the floor and held a 46-45 edge off the boards.

For the Scarlet Raptors, senior center Tanjae Lewis (Magnolia, NJ/Sterling) collected 18 points and eight rebounds, while freshman forward Michelle Obasi (Camden, NJ/Camden Catholic) scored 11 points and added nine rebounds. She also had three steals, one blocked shot and one assist.

Freshman guard Cara Racobaldo (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) collected seven points, four assists and a game-high five steals for the Scarlet Raptors, while senior guard/forward Irene Grimanis (Brooklawn, NJ/Gloucester) grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds. The 10 boards helped Grimanis hike her career total to 604, making her only the ninth player in program history to pass the 600-rebound plateau. She needs 25 more to tie Michelle Riley (1996-2000) for eighth place on the career list.

The Scarlet Raptors shot only 16-for-59 (27.1) from the floor and had six more turnovers (22-16) than the Cougars.

Rutgers-Camden returns to action Wednesday with an 8 p.m. NJAC game at Richard Stockton College.
