Wyatt Polk (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial) finished with a game-high 24 points to power the Rutgers University-Camden men's basketball team over Moravian College, 86-73, in a non-conference game here Monday night.
The Scarlet Raptors improve to 7-4 with their third straight win, marking the first time they've been 7-4 after 11 games since the 2001-02 season.
The Greyhounds fall to 1-10.
Wrapped in a tight game and leading, 19-18, the Scarlet Raptors went on their 12-0 run midway through the opening half, sparked by a jumper from Taylor. Following a layup by Smart and a three-pointer by sophomore guard
Davis Graham (Cinnaminson, NJ/Doane Academy), Taylor tacked on a trey and a layup, helping the Raptors establish a 31-18 lead.
Rutgers-Camden led, 38-29, at the break, with Polk scoring 13 in the first half and Taylor adding seven. Junior guard
Julian Martin (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown), meanwhile, had six first-half rebounds.
For the Greyhounds, sophomore guard
Isaiah Jennings (Montclair, NJ/Montclair) had nine first-half points, while a pair of guards, senior
Izel Dickerson (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) and freshman
Matt Cardonne (Branchburg, NJ/Somerville) had six apiece.
Rutgers-Camden broke open the game early in the second half, building a lead as large as 17 points (55-38), before watching Moravian storm back to cut the gap to six (59-53). The Scarlet Raptors responded with an eight-point run, six by Smart, and went on to close out the game.
In addition to 24 points from Polk and 17 from Smart, senior guard
K.J. Brown (Sicklerville, NJ/Living Faith Christian Academy) finished with 13 points and Taylor added 12.
Smart's 10 rebounds, giving him his second career double-double at Rutgers-Camden, helped the Raptors post a 36-27 advantage off the boards. Martin added seven boards, tying his Raptor career high, and dished off four assists.
Rutgers-Camden shot 34-for-61 (55.7 percent) from the floor, including 8-for-20 (40.0) from three-point range. Moravian shot 26-for-57 (45.6) from the floor and 11-for-28 (39.3) from beyond the arc.
Cardonne finished with 18 points for the Greyhounds, while sophomore forward
Brandon McGuire (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) had a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds. Dickerson scored 14 points and Jennings finished with 11.
The Scarlet Raptors return to action Wednesday, hosting Rutgers-Newark in a 6 p.m. New Jersey Athletic Conference game.
