ALLENTOWN, Penn. (Oct. 15, 2016) – The Rutgers University-Camden women's tennis team compiled several career firsts and played its closest match of the season before falling to host Cedar Crest College, 5-4, in a non-conference match here Saturday.
Rutgers-Camden falls to 0-8, while Cedar Crest improves to 8-7.
For the first time, freshmen
Annalise Kipp (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) and
Danielle Lemma (Haddon Township, NJ/Haddon Township) captured both their singles match and combined to win their doubles competition on the same day. The Raptors also received the first career victory from a pair of first-year players, as senior
Millie Kipp (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) and freshman
Trinh Nguyen (Somerdale, NJ/Sterling) combined to post an 8-3 win at third doubles.
Annalise Kipp won at first singles with a comeback 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory, while Lemma captured a 6-1, 6-1 win at third singles. The two freshmen also earned an 8-5 victory at first doubles, marking the second consecutive match they posted an 8-5 victory at the first doubles flight.
Cedar Crest won four of the six singles matches, with the Raptors' senior
Christine Abacan (Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) falling 6-1, 6-1 at second singles and sophomore
Ashley Flores (Camden, NJ/Moorestown Friends) dropping a 6-4, 6-2 decision at fourth singles.
Millie Kipp lost a close 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 decision at fifth singles and Nguyen was edged at sixth singles by a 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 score.
Flores and Abacan lost a close 8-5 match at second doubles
Rutgers-Camden returns to action Sunday with a 12 p.m. match at Penn State-Brandywine.
