NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (Nov. 5, 2016) – The College of New Rochelle men's soccer team battled back from a one-goal deficit here Saturday and went on to defeat Rutgers University-Camden, 2-1, in a non-conference game to end the regular season for both clubs.

The contest was arranged earlier in the week after both teams lost in their conference tournaments. Rutgers-Camden falls to 8-8-4 with its fourth straight loss and sixth in its last eight games (1-1-6). New Rochelle, a first-year program, improves to 16-3 as both teams wait to see what happens when the ECAC selects its Division III championship field Monday afternoon.

The Scarlet Raptors out-shot the Blue Angels, 20-11, and held a 6-3 edge in corner kicks. The Raptors even struck first with a goal in the 37th minute from junior midfielder Brad Maine (Cherry Hill, NJ/Camden Catholic), assisted by sophomore midfielder Fatai King (Lumberton, NJ/Rancocas Valley). It was the first collegiate point for King, while Maine took over the team lead in goals (6) and points (16).

Only four minutes later, a handball in the box gave New Rochelle a penalty kick. Freshman forward Jovanni Garcia (Garden Grove, CA/Garden Grove), the top Division III scorer in the nation, finished the penalty kick for his 30th goal of the season, tying the game.

The score remained tied until the 73rd minute, when sophomore forward Nicorey Warren (Brooklyn, NY/Brownsville Academy) scored the winning goal, assisted by freshman midfielder Oscar Guido (Kendall, FL/John A. Ferguson) and Garcia. The three points on the day raised Garcia's season total to an amazing 80 (30 goals, 20 assists).

Sophomore keeper James Brett (Palmyra, J/Palmyra) made four saves for the Scarlet Raptors, while sophomore Cristian Perez Del Castillo (Harrison, NY/Harrison) made nine saves to earn the win.
