CAMDEN, N.J. (Dec. 1, 2016) – There's no better remedy for a loss than to bounce right back on the winning track, and that's exactly what the Rutgers University-Camden women's basketball team did in a non-conference game here Thursday night.
One day after suffering their first loss of the season, the Scarlet Raptors toppled King's College, 72-54, behind a game-high 24 points from junior guard
Jovan Childers (Bridgeton, NJ/Bridgeton).
Rutgers-Camden, which won its first four games before falling to Rowan University on Wednesday night, raised its record to 5-1. King's College, which has lost four straight games, fell to 1-6.
The Scarlet Raptors trailed only once, at 4-2, before going on a 15-2 run to take a 17-6 lead. They maintained that 11-point lead at the end of the first quarter, 19-8, and increased their margin to as many as 14 points (26-12) in the second quarter before King's rallied to cut the gap to 35-27 at the break.
Childers had 14 of her points in the opening half, while freshman forward
Rebecca Prociak (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Holy Redeemer) had 11 points for the Lady Monarchs.
King's scored the first three points of the third quarter on a trey by senior guard
Kasey Seitz (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion) to cut its deficit to 35-30, but that was the closest the Lady Monarchs came the rest of the way. By the end of the third quarter, the Scarlet Raptors held a 56-41 lead and they were up by as many as 22 points (72-50) in the final quarter.
Childers, who had notched a game-high 21 points in Wednesday's loss to Rowan, scored 24 against King's, aided by 10-for-15 shooting from the floor. She also tied with junior teammate
Cara Racobaldo (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) with a game-high three steals. Racobaldo also added four steals, allowing her to move into fifth place on the program's career list with 277, passing Krystal Jankowski (2004-08), who had 274.
