Danielle Lemma (Haddon Township, NJ/Haddon Township) captured her first collegiate victory, but that was all that the Rutgers University-Camden women's tennis team could manage as the young Scarlet Raptors fell to Stockton University, 8-1, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match here Saturday afternoon.
Rutgers-Camden falls to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the NJAC. Stockton improves to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
Lemma rallied to post a 2-6, 6-2, 10-6 victory at third singles for her first victory. She also combined with freshman
Annalise Kipp (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) to drop an 8-3 decision at first doubles.
Kipp lost her match at first singles, 6-3, 6-1, while senior
Christine Abacan (Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision at second singles. Sophomore
Ashley Flores (Camden, NJ/Moorestown Friends) lost at fourth singles (6-0, 6-2), senior
Millie Kipp (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision at fifth singles and freshman
Trinh Nguyen (Somerdale, NJ/Sterling) lost at sixth singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Stockton, which defeated Rutgers-Camden, 8-1, last season in Galloway, swept the last two doubles matches by 8-0 scores over the second doubles team of Abacan and Flores and the third doubles team of
Millie Kipp and Nguyen.
Rutgers-Camden has a quick turnaround for its next match. The Scarlet Raptors travel to Williamsport, Penn., Sunday for an 11 a.m. match against Lycoming College.
