Jones, Crouch pace Raptors at Inter-Regional Border Battle

MULLICA HILL, N.J. (Oct. 14, 2017) – Juniors Alexis Jones (Clayton, NJ/Gloucester County Institute of Technology)
and junior Elijah Crouch (Newtonville, NJ/Buena Regional) led the Rutgers University-Camden cross country teams as the Scarlet Raptors competed here Saturday at the Inter-Regional Border Battle, hosted by Rowan University.
 
Jones was the top Scarlet Raptor runner in the 239-runner field for the women's event, finishing 172nd overall with her personal best 6K time of 25:34.2. Crouch, meanwhile, set his top 8K time of 28:25.2 as he finished 176th in a field of 250 runners.
 
Otterbein led the 27-team women's field with 98 points, finishing 10 ahead of second-place Johns Hopkins. Rutgers-Camden finished 25th with 793.
 
Hopkins' Natalia Laspada was the winner in the women's race, posting a 6K time of 21:11.2.
 
On the men's side, Haverford scored 29 points to lead a field of 28 scoring teams. Rutgers-Camden, which had only four runners competing, did not score.
 
The men's 8K race was won by Kevin Veltre of Rowan in a time of 24:44.5.
 
In addition to Jones, freshman Kaci Draves (Audubon, NJ/Audubon) finished 188th overall for the Rutgers-Camden women with her personal best 6K time of 26:26.6. Freshman Donna Falisz (Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade) place third on the team and 211th overall with a 6K personal best of 27:32.0. Junior Courtney Childress (Deptford, NJ/Deptford) finished fourth on the team and 216th overall (28:13.1).
 
Sophomore Jessica Fronckowiak (Deptford, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) finished 226th overall for the Raptors in a time of 29:59.5, while freshman Daniela Perez (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) placed 234th (a personal 6K best of 33:39.0). Seniors Lindsay Bone (Pittsgrove, NJ/AP Schalick) and Brittany Thompson (Paterson, NJ/Passaic County Tech) finished 236th and 237th, respectively, in times of 35:26.9 and 36:04.4.
 
Three of the four runners on the men's team are in their first season at Rutgers-Camden and they all set their Scarlet Raptor 8K best. In addition to Crouch, freshmen Jordan Perkins (Richmond Hill, GA/Richmond Hill) and Sean Ward (Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) notched personal bests in 29:41.1 and 30:14.6, respectively. Perkins finished second on the Raptors and 208th overall, while Ward was fourth on the team and 218th overall.
 
Scarlet Raptor veteran Richard Campolungo (Burlington, NJ/Holy Cross), the lone senior on the team, finished third on the team and 213th overall in a time of 29:52.4.
 
The Scarlet Raptors return to action Oct. 28 when they compete in the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships at Stockton University. The women's 6K race begins at 10:30 a.m. and the men's 8K race starts at 11:15 a.m.
