WAYNE, N.J. (Oct. 21, 2017) – Heading into its final New Jersey Athletic Conference game on Wednesday night, the Rutgers University-Camden men's soccer team is facing a must-win situation and will need some help if it hopes to return to the six-team NJAC playoffs.
The Scarlet Raptors are in a four-team scramble for the last two playoff spots after playing to a 1-1 tie in double overtime here Saturday at William Paterson University. The tie leaves the Raptors at 8-7-4 overall and 2-4-2 in the conference, currently standing in eighth place, a half-game behind Ramapo (3-4-1 NJAC) and one game behind both Stockton and Paterson (3-3-2). The Raptors would earn the tie-breaker over Stockton if they can beat the Ospreys Wednesday in a 7 p.m. Senior Night game in Camden. Ramapo, meanwhile, plays at Kean University (4-4 NJAC) and Paterson plays at Rutgers-Newark (7-1).
Paterson scored the game's first goal at 34:04 when sophomore midfielder
Darwin Cruz (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) followed up the rebound of his own penalty kick, which was saved by Raptor junior keeper
James Brett (Palmyra, NJ/Palmyra).
Rutgers-Camden scored the equalizer at 60:45. Sophomore back
Zach Fox (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) banked in a 25-yard shot off the inside of the left post. It was the first career goal for Fox,
