Union, New Jersey (April 8, 2017) – The Rutgers University-Camden women's lacrosse team could not stop the high-scoring offense of Kean University here on Saturday afternoon, as the Cougars defeated the Scarlet Raptors by a score of 20-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference opener for both teams.
The Scarlet Raptors fall to 3-6 overall and 0-1 in NJAC play, while Kean improves to 8-3 on the year and 1-0 in the NJAC.
Kean jumped out to an early 7-0 lead within 12 minutes, before doubling that lead into halftime.
The Scarlet Raptors erased the shutout with 26:11 to go in the second period as junior midfielder Nicole Martin (Delran, NJ, Delran) recorded her 18th goal of the season to make it 15-1. Sophomore midfielder Brianna Manko (Stratford, NJ, Sterling) added the Scarlet Raptors' second tally of the day for her 10th goal on the year.
Kean led in ground balls on the day 20-17.
Offensively for the Cougars, Danni LeSaint added three goals while Morgan Graham, Lex Meyer, Andrea Trentacosti, and Taylor Nyberg all chipped in with a pair. Meghan Tillger provided one goal, two assists, and 13 draw controls.
In goal, freshman Caitlyn Snyder (Somerdale, NJ, Sterling) recorded 9 saves against the Cougar attack. Nikki Apostolopoulos earned the win for Kean with just under 54 minutes of work and 8 saves.
Rutgers-Camden returns to NJAC action on Tuesday when they host to The College of New Jersey at 7pm.
