Harbaugh leads Raptors in loss to No. 23 Montclair State

CAMDEN, N.J. (Jan. 10, 2018) – Senior guard/forward Katie Sire (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) scored 18 of her game-high 23 points in the second half as the nationally-ranked Montclair State University women's basketball team pulled away from Rutgers University-Camden to post a 62-47 victory in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Wednesday night.
 
The Red Hawks, ranked No. 23 in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25 poll, improve to 13-1 overall and 8-0 in the NJAC with their 11th consecutive win. The Scarlet Raptors fall to 8-6 overall and 5-3 in the NJAC.
 
Montclair State, a perennial national power, has won 23 straight against Rutgers-Camden and owns a 43-15 lead in the all-time series.
 
The Scarlet Raptors stayed close to the Red Hawks throughout the first half, which saw the scored tied three times (2-2, 4-4 and 15-15) and change twice. With 6:24 left in the half, however, Montclair State broke the final deadlock on a jumper by Sire to take the lead for good, 17-15. Sire closed out the half with a foul shot to give Montclair State a 27-24 lead and the Scarlet Raptors never came closer than three points the rest of the way, the last time at 37-34.
 
Montclair State took its first double-digit lead, 48-38, late in the third quarter. The Red Hawks' 15-point final margin was their biggest lead of the game.

Prior to the game, Rutgers-Camden honored Gabby Greene, who set the program's
career mark for three-pointers Saturday at Kean University. Greene, seen with her
parents Michael and Gena, owns 176 three-pointers halfway through her junior season.
In addition to her 23 points, Sire notched a game-high nine rebounds and added four assists and two steals. Senior forward Taylor Harmon (Saddle Brook, NJ/Saddle Brook) added 12 points for Montclair State, while sophomore forward Alex McKinnon (Fairfield, CT/Ludlowe) added 11 points and eight boards. The Red Hawks also received eight points, four rebounds and a game-high six assists from senior guard Kate Tobie (Elizabeth, NJ/Roselle Catholic).
 
Rutgers-Camden freshman guard Jordan Harbaugh (Mantua, NJ/Clearview Regional), pictured above, tied her collegiate career high with a team-leading 13 points and tied another personal high with three steals.
 
Sophomore forward Kirsten Flournoy (Sicklerville, NJ/Timber Creek) notched 10 points and six rebounds for the Raptors. She tied with senior forward/center Michelle Obasi (Camden, NJ/Camden Catholic) and junior guard/forward Ariel Robinson (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) for the team rebounding high.
 
Senior guard/forward Cara Racobaldo (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) added 10 points, four boards and three steals, while pacing the team with four assists.
 
Montclair State shot 22-for-41 from the floor (53.7 percent), while Rutgers-Camden was only 19-for-60 (31.7). The Red Hawks also held a 38-26 advantage off the boards.
 
Rutgers-Camden plays another NJAC home game on Saturday when it hosts William Paterson University at 1 p.m.
