MAHWAH, N.J. (Jan. 3, 2018) – The Rutgers University-Camden women's basketball team was playing from behind most of the night, but that didn't faze the Scarlet Raptors in their first game of the new year.
 
Trailing by seven points one minute into the final quarter, the Scarlet Raptors rallied to send the game into overtime before outlasting host Ramapo College, 76-68, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Wednesday.
 
The victory lifts the Scarlet Raptors to 7-5 overall and 4-2 in the NJAC. Ramapo falls to 4-9 and 1-5 with its third straight loss.
 
Rutgers-Camden leads the all-time series, 37-22, and has won six of its last seven games against Ramapo.
 
This game appeared to be headed in the Roadrunners' direction after they scored the first two field goals of the fourth quarter to take a 48-41 lead with 9:02 remaining in regulation. With 7:25 remaining, however, freshman guard 
Shane Holmes (Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) hit a huge three-pointer to spark the Scarlet Raptors' comeback, making it a 48-44 game.
 
After the Roadrunners made it a six-point game at 52-46, another freshman guard, 
Jordan Harbaugh (Mantua, NJ/Clearview Regional), drilled a three-pointer to slice the deficit to 52-49. The Scarlet Raptors scored four of the next six points on jumpers by senior guard/forward 
Cara Racobaldo (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) and junior guard/forward 
Ariel Robinson (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) to cut their deficit to 54-53 with 3:22 remaining.
 
After a Ramapo field goal made it 56-53, Rutgers-Camden senior forward/center 
Michelle Obasi (Camden, NJ/Camden Catholic) stepped up with a huge three-point play. Obasi was fouled while hitting a jumper and sank her free throw to tie the game at 56-56 with 2:16 remaining.
 
Once again, Ramapo countered with a trey by sophomore forward 
Jenna Harsh (Metuchen, NJ/Bishop Ahr), who led all players on the night with a double-double of 25 points and 11 rebounds. Obasi, however, owned the final minute of the fourth quarter as she helped the Raptors tie the game at 59-59 and send it into overtime. Her jumper with 49 seconds left in regulation cut the gap to 59-58. With six seconds left, she was fouled on an offensive rebound and putback attempt. She hit her second foul shot to tie the game.
 
Given a new life, Rutgers-Camden outscored Ramapo, 17-9, in the overtime session. Holmes gave the Raptors the lead right away, hitting a three-pointer. After a jumper by Ramapo's Harsh, the Raptors scored the next five points on a jumper by Racobaldo and a trey by Harbaugh. Junior guard 
Gabby Greene (Howell, NJ/Howell) notched a trey and a pair of foul shots down the stretch to lead the Raptors with five overtime points.
 
The late rally turned the tables on a game where the Scarlet Raptors trailed throughout most of the contest. Ramapo took a quick 6-0 lead. Despite ties at 8-8, 10-10 and 13-13, the Raptors didn't lead until Greene hit a trey with 39 seconds left in the opening quarter to give Rutgers-Camden an 18-15 advantage. Ramapo tied the game at 18-18 heading into the second quarter.
 
After another tie at 20-20, the Raptors fell behind again before a three-pointer by junior guard 
Brennah Lambert (Lindenwold, NJ/Sterling) and a jumper Robinson gave the Raptors their biggest first-half lead, 25-22. Harsh responded with a trey to tie the game for Ramapo and kick off a nine-point Roadrunner run, giving the home team a 31-25 lead. Four Raptor foul shots cut the margin to 31-29 at halftime.
 
Ramapo opened up the game early in the third quarter, scoring seven of the first nine points, including five by Harsh, to take a 38-31 lead. Rutgers-Camden rallied back to trail, 44-41, at the end of the third quarter, with sophomore forward 
Kirsten Flournoy (Sicklerville, NJ/Timber Creek) hitting a three-pointer just before the buzzer.
 
After Ramapo scored the first four points of the fourth quarter, Rutgers-Camden mounted its furious comeback.
 
Racobaldo, 
pictured above, paced the Scarlet Raptors with 18 points, eight rebounds and a game-high six assists, while tying Greene and Ramapo junior center 
Tia Solomon (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) with a game-high three steals.
 
Greene and Obasi notched 15 points apiece and Holmes canned 10. Obasi added seven rebounds, four assists and a game-high two blocked shots. Harbaugh and Robinson both added six points, while Harbaugh also had four assists.
 
Obasi hiked her career scoring output to 1,035 points, moving to within two points of tying Andrea Fogel (1986-89) for 11th place on the program's career list. Greene, meanwhile, raised her career total to 168 treys, only four shy of the program record set by Alex Gravinese (2012-15).
 
In addition to Harsh, Ramapo received 15 points and nine boards from senior guard 
Jina Crawford (New City, NY/Paramus Catholic). Solomon added 11 points.
 
Rutgers-Camden shot 25-for-61 from the floor (41.0 percent), including 10-for-24 (41.7) from three-point range. The Raptors were a stellar 16-for-19 (84.2) from the foul line, helping them make up for a 46-34 deficit off the boards. Ramapo also had five more turnovers (18-13).
 
The Roadrunners shot 28-for-70 (40.0) overall, but only 7-for-27 (25.9) from three-point range. They were 5-for-8 (62.5) from the foul line.
 
Rutgers-Camden returns to action Saturday with a 3 p.m. NJAC game at Kean University.
