Camden, NJ (March 19, 2018) – It was a tale of two halves today at Rutgers-Camden Community Park, as the Rutgers University-Camden Scarlet Raptors women's lacrosse team defeated Penn State-Abington in non-conference action by a final score of 16-14. The two halves were exactly as described, as PSU-Abington secured a halftime lead of 9-6. Down 3 goals with 30 minutes to play, Rutgers-Camden knew that a big second half surge was necessary to defeat the Nittany Lions, and they did just that. The Scarlet Raptors outscored Abington 10-5 in the second half to secure the win on the day, raising their record on the season to 2-1.
The first half saw the Scarlet Raptors constantly chasing Abington's lead, as a quick 3 goal deficit was erased by Rutgers-Camden through goals by sophomore midfielder
Meghan Giordano (Pennsauken, NJ, Camden Catholic), junior defender
Cara Racobaldo (Pennsauken, NJ, Camden Catholic), and senior attacker
Natalie DiCarlo (Sicklerville, NJ, Gloucester Catholic). Senior midfielder
Nicole Martin (Delran, NJ, Delran) added 2 goals to her total of 5 on the day during the first half, as a final goal by
Giordano cut the Nittany Lions' lead to 9-6 before the halftime horn.
In the first 10 minutes of the second half, the Scarlet Raptors pushed hard to eliminate the Abington lead, fueled by goals from
Martin,
Giordano, and a hat trick in a span of just under 5 minutes by senior midfielder
Jessica Mayer (Cinnaminson, NJ, Cinnaminson). Senior midfielder
Sarah Boucot (Sicklerville, NJ, Paul VI) registered an important assist to cut the lead to 9-10, as the Raptors took the lead with 24 minutes remaining in the game. Back and forth action saw final pushes from both teams, as the Scarlet Raptors notched a lead large enough to secure the win.
Racobaldo provided 2 crucial assists in the second half, as well as goals powered by
Mayer,
DiCarlo, and
Martin. Both
Mayer and
Martin finished with a team-high 5 goals, as
Giordano tallied 3 goals.
Martin moved to 5
th all-time in goals with 77 and 4
th all-time in points with 112 with her performance today.

Brittany Watson (Millville, NJ, Millville) secured the win in the cage for the Scarlet Raptors, increasing her record on the young season to 2-0.
Wilson stopped 7 of the 15 shots she faced on goal. She also led the team in ground balls with 6. Sophomore goalkeeper
Caitlyn Snyder (Somerdale, NJ, Sterling) added 3 saves on the day.
