LEESBURG, Florida (March 18, 2022) – After watching five scheduled games get washed out during their week in Florida, the Rutgers University-Camden Scarlet Raptors spent some extra time playing softball on their last day of the spring break trip here Friday.
Unfortunately for the Raptors, they lost both of their games, dropping a 6-1 decision against Farmingdale State, and falling in the eighth inning against SUNY-Cortland, 5-4.
Rutgers-Camden (3-6) returns to action on Tuesday, March 29, when it entertains Gwynedd Mercy University in a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
Farmingdale State 6, Rutgers-Camden 1
The Rams scored five times in the second inning off Raptor junior pitcher
Rachel White (1-3) and went on to ride a five-hitter by their own sophomore ace Allie Stanya (4-0). Stanya allowed three walks and one earned run, while striking out four.
Farmingdale State (6-1) used five hits, a hit batsman and an error to score its five runs in the second inning. A pair of singles and a hit batsman loaded the bases with nobody out before sophomore second baseman Julianna Prescia singled home the first run. Sophomore shortstop Jessica Clark followed with a single and raced to second on an outfield throwing error, allowing a second run to score after she collected one RBI.
Raptor freshman
Lindsey Rodzon replaced White in the circle and freshman left fielder Alyssa Cowen reached on a fielder's choice when her sacrifice played another run. Sophomore center fielder Priscilla Rivera singled home the final run of the frame.
Sophomore catcher Lyndsey Shaw singled home the Rams' final run in the fourth inning.

SUNY-Cortland 5, Rutgers-Camden 4 (8 innings)
In the top of the eighth inning, after a runner was placed on second base with the international tie-breaker to start the inning, Cortland used a sacrifice and a RBI single by senior center fielder Gina Meyers to plate the eventual winning run. Rutgers-Camden left the tying run at second base in the bottom of the inning.
Rodzon was the tough-luck losing pitcher, allowing only the unearned run put on base by the international tie-breaker. She worked the final five innings, allowing five hits and four walks. She struck out one.
Senior Lindsey Richards earned the win for Cortland, working the final 4.1 innings of shutout ball, allowing no hits or walks, while striking out seven.
