CAMDEN, N.J. (Sept. 15, 2022) – The Swarthmore College volleyball team won its fifth straight match here Thursday night as it swept past Rutgers University-Camden, 3-0.
The Garnet won by scores of 25-20, 25-16 and 25-16 to raise their record to 6-2. The Scarlet Raptors fall to 1-5.
In the first set, with the score 10-10, a Raptor service error and a kill by freshman Zindzhi Montgomery gave Swarthmore a 12-10 lead. Rutgers-Camden never came closer than one point (12-11) after that, although the Raptors made it close near the end after being down, 19-12.
In the second set, with the score tied 7-7, Swarthmore scored six straight points to grab a 13-7 lead on the way to a 25-16 victory. The Garnet opened up a quick 6-0 and 9-1 lead in the third set and went on to wrap up the match.
Junior Kaylee Zhang finished with 16 kills, eight digs and a .545 hitting percentage for Swarthmore, while junior Dani Pena collected 35 assists. Swarthmore had 42 kills and a 319 hitting percentage as a team.
Rutgers-Camden received six kills and a .667 hitting percentage from junior
Isabella Choice, who added a pair of blocks, two digs and a service ace. Junior
Erica Nebrich also added six kills, while junior
Dyamond Free had five kills and five digs. Sophomore
Kaitlyn Parrish and freshman
Ciera McCrae both had four kills.
Senior
Brinn Hassan had 21 assists and five digs. Senior
Morgan Fox notched eight digs, while senior
Haley Novak collected two of the Raptors' three service aces, while also adding three digs.
Rutgers-Camden returns to action Saturday with a tri-match at Penn State-Harrisburg. The Scarlet Raptors play the host team at 11 a.m. and face Wilkes University at 1 p.m.
