GLASSBORO, N.J. (April 20, 2023) – The nationally-ranked Rowan University baseball team scored in each of the first seven innings, including multiple runs in the first six frames, as it defeated Rutgers University-Camden, 17-9, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Thursday.
The Profs broke a 6-6 tie with three runs in the bottom of the third inning and went on to build a lead as large as 16-6. Rowan, ranked 18th this week in the D3baseball.com Top 25 poll and 20th in the Collegiate Baseball Division III poll, improves to 22-9 overall and 8-3 in the NJAC, while Rutgers-Camden falls to 19-13 and 5-6.
Rowan opened up a 6-1 lead through two innings, but Rutgers-Camden used a five-run frame in the top of the third to tie the game. Rutgers-Camden used three hits, a walk and two Rowan errors in its big inning, including a two-run single from senior designated hitter
Jack Murphy.
Right after the Scarlet Raptors tied the game, however, the Profs took advantage of three singles and two walks in the bottom of the third to score three runs, taking the lead for good. Sophomore center fielder Phil Sedalis singled home the tie-breaking run.
Rowan added two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings and a three-spot in the sixth as its lead ballooned to 16-6. The Profs added their final run in the seventh inning after Rutgers-Camden scored twice in the top of the seventh. Sophomore third baseman
Andrew Brown and Murphy opened the frame with singles and sophomore
Diego Salazar drew a pinch-hit walk to load the bases. Brown scored on a double play grounder and freshman catcher
Evan Carbone singled home Murphy.
The Raptors scored their final run in the eighth inning when junior center fielder
Auggie Uzdanovics walked, Brown reached on an error and Salazar hit a two-out RBI single.
Rowan ripped 21 hits off four Scarlet Raptor pitchers, with Sedalis and junior third baseman Anthony Schooley both going 4-for-5. Sedalis scored five times and added four RBIs, while Schooley had three runs and three RBIs.
Rutgers-Camden collected 13 hits, including 3-for-5 games by both Brown and Murphy. Brown scored three runs and drove home one, while Murphy had two runs and two RBIs.
Senior second baseman
Danny Vazquez went 2-for-5 with one run scored for Rutgers-Camden.

John Kasper (0-4) took the loss for the Scarlet Raptors, working 2.1 innings and allowing 11 hits, three walks and nine earned runs. He struck out one.
Rowan senior Jason O'Neill (5-1) worked six innings to notch the win, allowing nine hits, two walks and eight runs, six of them earned. He struck out four.
The two teams will play another NJAC game Friday, with Rowan visiting Rutgers-Camden for a 3:30 p.m. start.
