Emily Hilt broke her own program record in the hammer throw for the second straight meet and juniors
Alexis Marini and
Sabrina Baer turned in strong performances as the Rutgers University-Camden track team sent a handful of women to the first day of competition at the Osprey Open here Friday.
The event saw Hilt finish first of 27 athletes in the hammer throw with a distance of 54.33 meters, breaking the mark of 54.29 meters she set April 1 at the Danny Curran Invitational. Marini finished third in the event with a hammer throw of 44.92 meters.
Baer finished eighth of 28 with a javelin throw of 29.00 meters, while also beginning competition in the heptathlon, which featured nine athletes. She was fourth in the shot put (7.97 meters), seventh in the 200-meter dash (31.08), eighth in the high jump (1.25 meters) and ninth in the 100-meter hurdles (22.45). On Saturday, she will compete in the heptathlon's long jump, javelin and 800-meter events.
In addition to Baer in the main javelin competition, the Raptors also had sophomores
Francis Hill finish 13th (23.80 meters) and
Bree Smith place 24th (17.84 meters).
The Scarlet Raptors will return to Stockton University Saturday for the second day of the Osprey Open.
