Scarlet Raptor women finish fifth at NJAC Championships

MAHWAH, N.J. (May 7, 2023) – The Rutgers University-Camden women finished fifth of 10 teams and the men finished 10th as the Scarlet Raptors completed their two-day competition here Sunday at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at Ramapo College.
 
The women collected 36 points as they posted their highest finish since placing fourth in the 2006 NJAC Championships, when they scored 53 points. They also scored 36 points last season when they finished eighth.
 
The Raptor men didn't score any points while finishing 10th.
 
On the men's side, Rowan University captured the NJAC title with 296 points, while The College of New Jersey finished second at 160. The two schools reversed finishes on the women's side, with TCNJ earning the conference title with 239.5 points, while Rowan finished second with 206.5.
 
Senior Emily Hilt completed her fantastic weekend by finishing third of 25 in the shot put (12.03 meters) and third of 22 in the discus (35.92 meters). Those accomplishments come on the heel of winning her second straight conference title in the hammer throw on Saturday, while breaking her own meet record in the event.
 
Junior Alexis Marini, who finished third in the NJAC hammer throw Saturday, added a fourth-place finish in the discus (35.78 meters) and placed 15th in the shot put (10.34 meters).
 
The women also saw sophomore Onyinyechukwu Anaduaka finish 20th in the shot put (9.31 meters) and senior Briana Cortes placed 24th in the event (6.97 meters). In the discus, freshman Rabiyatu Sow finished 19th with a PR of 21.88 meters, while sophomore Bree Smith finished 21st (19.01 meters).
 
The Scarlet Raptor women also added a point when senior Lily Beck finished eight of 11 in the high jump, tying her PR of 1.47 meters.
 
Four Raptors participated in the 34-athlete field of the men's shot put, with sophomore Amir Lindor finishing 22nd (10.54 meters) and senior Meek Sumter placing 28th with a PR of 9.78 meters. Senior Charles Walker finished 31st (8.50 meters) and sophomore Israel Miller placed 33rd (a PR of 7.12 meters).
 
The Rutgers-Camden men also ran a pair of relays, with the 4x100 team finishing ninth of 10 teams (47.26) and the 4x400 finishing ninth of nine (3:50.16). Running the 4x100 were freshmen Brandon Butts and Patrick Dwamena and sophomores Austin Richards and Trey Williams. On the 4x400 team were Dwamena, junior Franklin Milord, sophomore Jaquan Ortiz and freshman Ja'Mier Smith-Simons.
