Box Score

CAMDEN, N.J. – Junior guard Kamari Talley (Camden, NJ/Creative Arts) notched a double-double, setting her Rutgers University-Camden career high with 28 points and tying her high of 14 rebounds, and senior guard Alex Gravinese (Audubon, NJ/Audubon) became the program's all-time leader in three-point field goals as the Scarlet Raptors defeated Rowan University, 74-62, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference women's basketball game here Thursday night.

The Scarlet Raptors improve to 8-11 overall and 4-8 in the NJAC, their most conference wins since they finished 4-9 in the 2003-04 season.

Rowan falls to 13-5 and 9-3, snapping a three-game winning streak against Rutgers-Camden. The Profs lead the all-time series, 48-15.

Rowan appeared ready to add another series win as it quickly raced to leads of 13-4 and 15-6 to open the game. The Profs' quick start included a nine-point run after Rutgers-Camden scored the first two points of the game.

The Scarlet Raptors, however, clawed their way back into the game and took a 19-17 lead on a 13-2 run. The run was sparked by six points from Gravinese, whose second trey of the run not only gave the Raptors the lead for good at 19-17, but also tied the career mark of 147 three-pointers set by Maureen McGovern (1994-99). Moments later, Gravinese set a new record as her trey padded the Raptors' lead to 22-17. She finished the night with four treys for 12 points and 149 three-pointers for her three-year Raptor career.

Rutgers-Camden continued its run, building the margin to 41-31 by halftime. The Scarlet Raptors built their lead to 14 points (45-31) early in the second half before Rowan whittled the margin down to 61-58 with 4:50 remaining on a layup by senior guard Bria Hill (Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City).

The Profs had a chance to slice the gap to one point moments later, but a missed layup was rebounded by Talley, leading to a jumper by senior center Tanjae Lewis (Magnolia, NJ/Sterling), which put the Raptors up, 63-58.

Once again Hill sliced the gap to three points with a layup, but Lewis answered with a layup of her own as the Raptors regained a five-point lead, 65-60. They increased their advantage to as many as 14 points (74-60) down the stretch to nail down the victory.

Talley, a transfer from Saint Francis University who joined the Raptors for their last game in December, collected 28 points, aided by 12-for-14 shooting from the foul line, as she passed her previous Rutgers-Camden high of 26 points, which came against Ramapo College Jan. 17. She also tied her Raptor high of 14 rebounds, set against The College of New Jersey Jan. 21. It was her third double-double in her nine games at Rutgers-Camden.

Lewis finished with 15 points, while Gravinese notched 12. Freshman guard Cara Racobaldo (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) collected nine points and a game-high six assists, while senior guard/forward Irene Grimanis (Brooklawn, NJ/Gloucester) grabbed nine rebounds, helping the Raptors to a 51-43 advantage off the boards.

Rowan placed four players in double figures, led by 15 points from sophomore guard Anyssa Sanchez (Stratford, NJ/Sterling) and 14 from junior center Kate Matthews (Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson). Matthews added 12 rebounds for a double-double.

Hill had 12 points and a game-high five steals, while senior guard Jade Bonder (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) scored 10 points.

Rowan shot 24-for-79 (30.4 percent) from the floor, including 21.4 percent (6-for-28) from three-point range. The Profs were 8-for-11 (72.7) from the foul line.

Rutgers-Camden shot 24-for-57 (42.1) from the floor, including 5-for-14 (35.7) from beyond the arc. The Scarlet Raptors were 21-for-27(77.8) from the line.

Rutgers-Camden also had 25 turnovers, while Rowan made 18.

Both teams play NJAC opponents in their next games on Saturday. Rowan hosts New Jersey City University at 1 p.m., while Rutgers-Camden plays a 3 p.m. contest at Kean University.
