WAYNE, N.J. (Jan. 14, 2017) – The William Paterson University women's basketball team went on a 24-5 run, bridging the final two quarters here Saturday, and went on to post a 63-56 victory in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game.
Paterson improves to 9-7 overall and 4-5 in the NJAC, snapping a two-game losing streak. Rutgers-Camden falls to 9-6 overall and 3-5 in the conference with its third straight loss.
Paterson, which owns a 51-10 lead in the all-time series, has won 20 of its last 21 games against Rutgers-Camden, with the lone Raptor win coming in a split of the season series last year.
The Pioneers rallied from a 36-28 deficit in the third quarter to grab a 40-38 advantage entering the final period. After the Scarlet Raptors chopped their deficit to 42-41 early in the fourth, William Paterson rattled off 10 straight points, including three apiece by freshman guard
Gabby Harris (South River, NJ/South River) and senior guard
Nikole Williams (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream Central) to make it a 52-41 game.
Led by four points from junior forward/center
Michelle Obasi (Camden, NJ/Camden Catholic), the Raptors scored six straight points to cut their gap to 52-47. They kept that five point deficit into the final minute, when Obasi's layup made it 58-53, but Paterson scored the next five points to put the game away. Sophomore guard
Gabby Greene (Howell, NJ/Howell) closed the final gap with a three-pointer just before the buzzer.
The Pioneers' big second half wiped out a fine first half by the Scarlet Raptors. Trailing, 6-4, early in the game, the Raptors went on a 13-point run, bookended by three-point field goals from Greene. By halftime, the Raptors held a 30-24 advantage, led by eight points from Obasi and six from Greene.

Julie Rovito (Ridgefield Park, NJ/Ridgefield Park) had seven steals, helping the Pioneers force 27 Raptor turnovers.
Obasi had a double-double of 16 points and 16 rebounds, hiking her career total to 494 rebounds and allowing her to move into 11th place on the program's all-time list. She passed both Carmen Harvey (483 rebounds from 1997-99) and Marchelle Coleman (486, 1993-95) on the career ladder.
Greene finished with 12 points, all on three-pointers, as she raised her career total of treys to 92, moving into fourth place on the program's list. She has one more three-pointer than Erin James (2001-04).

Jovan Childers (Bridgeton, NJ/Bridgeton) and senior center
Caroline Santiago (Buena, NJ/Buena Regional) both added 10 points. Sophomore guard
Ariel Robinson (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic), meanwhile, tied her career high with 11 rebounds to help the Scarlet Raptors hold a 56-42 advantage off the boards. She added six points, three assists and one steal.
Rutgers-Camden hosts The College of New Jersey in a 6 p.m. NJAC game Wednesday.
