MAHWAH, N.J. (Oct. 24, 2017) – Senior outside hitter
Cortnee Wilkerson (Los Angeles, CA/West Adams Prep) tied the Rutgers University-Camden volleyball program record by playing in her 121st career match, but the Scarlet Raptors were swept by Ramapo College, 3-0, in their final New Jersey Athletic Conference match of the season here Tuesday night.
Ramapo won by scores of 25-23, 25-15 and 25-20. The loss leaves the Scarlet Raptors with a 15-14 record overall. They finish at 3-5 in the NJAC and will be the sixth seed when the conference playoffs begin Oct. 31. They will play a 7 p.m. match at third-seeded Stockton University.
Wilkerson's 121st career match tied the program record shared by Olivia Rowland (2012-15) and
Caitlin Marchlowitz (2013-16). She will set a new standard Saturday when the Scarlet Raptors close their regular season with a tri-match at Wilkes University. They face Wilkes at 11 a.m. and Utica College at 1 p.m.
Wilkerson,
pictured above, finished the match with seven kills, two service aces and 10 digs. She also had 40 attack attempts, raising her single-season total to 925 and jumping into second place on that program list. She passed both Julie Grochowski (893 attempts in 2005) and Katherine Crosby (903 in 2010). Only Grochowski's 2004 total of 1,120 attack attempts is higher than Wilkerson's season total.
Rutgers-Camden received nine kills and four blocks from sophomore outside hitter
Jordan Erskine (Barnegat, NJ/Barnegat). The blocks hiked her career total to 89 and moved her into ninth place on the all-time list, passing Chelsea Schmotzer, who had 88 blocks from 2010-11. Junior middle hitter
Myiah Gatling (Woolwich Township, NJ/Kingsway Regional), who ranks eighth on the all-time list for blocks, added two blocks to hike her career total to 120.
Sophomore outside hitter
Morgan Mulligan (New Gretna, NJ/Pinelands Regional) notched six kills for the Scarlet Raptors, while her twin sister,
Jamie Mulligan (New Gretna, NJ/Pinelands Regional) added four kills and two blocks.
Sophomore setter
Caitlynn Marcano (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) notched a team-high 14 assists, while freshman setter
Alyson Lowe (Havertown, PA/Haverford) added 10. Marcano hiked her career assist total over the 900 milestone to 901. She ranks fourth on the career charts and is only 99 away from becoming the fourth player in program history to reach 1,000 career assists.
Libero/defensive specialists
Natalie DiGiacomo (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) and
Ashley Newman (Collegeville, PA/Methacton), a sophomore and freshman, respectively, led the team in digs. DiGiacomo had 19, while Newman added 12. DiGiacomo added two service aces and three assists.
