Box Score 2 SCRANTON, Penn. (Oct. 15, 2022) – It was a long, tough journey Saturday for the Rutgers University-Camden volleyball team as it lost both ends of a tri-match against Marymount University and Marywood University.
The Scarlet Raptors dropped a four-set match against Marymount (25-23, 16-25. 16-25, 15-25) before watching a spirited comeback attempt fall short in a five-set match against host Marywood (21-25, 24-26, 25-20, 25-21, 3-15). In the other match of the day, Marymount swept past Marywood in three sets.
The losses leave the Scarlet Raptors at 9-12 for the season. Marymount improves to 14-10 and Marywood falls to 11-12.
The Scarlet Raptors' busy weekend continues Sunday when they host a tri-match with Immaculata University and Moravian University, beginning at 11 a.m.
Marymount 3, Rutgers-Camden 1
The Scarlet Raptors won a tight opening set, 25-23, pulling away from a 22-22 tie by winning three of the last four points on kills by juniors
Dyamond Free (outside hitter) and
Erica Nebrich (outside hitter/right side), sandwiched around a kill by senior defensive specialist
Haley Novak.
The Saints, however, bounced back to take the next three sets to win the match.
Senior outside hitter/right side Elissa Munsterman had 17 kills for Marymount, while sophomore mittle hitter/outside hitter Maya Harris added 13. Munsterman added 13 digs for a double-double, while senior setter/right side Alexis Franklin had 40 assists.
Junior middle hitter/outside hitter
Isabella Choice paced Rutgers-Camden with 11 kills, while hitting .320 and adding three blocks (two solo), two service aces and two digs. Free finished with nine kills and four digs, while Nebrich had eight kills, 11 digs, two assisted blocks and one service ace.
Senior setter
Brinn Hassan had 26 assists, two aces, four digs and one kill, while senior libero/defensive specialist
Morgan Fox notched 10 digs and two assists.
Marywood 3, Rutgers-Camden 2
The Scarlet Raptors battled back from a two-set deficit after losing the second set, 26-24. They captured the third and fourth sets before Marywood scored the first seven points on its way to the fifth-set victory.
Senior outside hitter Shannon Corr had 18 kills, 15 digs and hit .457 to lead the Pacers.
Rutgers-Camden received 15 kills from Free, 13 from Choice and 10 from freshman defensive specialist/outside hitter
Ciera McCrae. McCrae added eight digs, while Free, Choice and Novak all had five.
Fox led the Raptors with 17 digs and two aces, while freshman libero/defensive specialist
Bella Craig added nine digs.
Hassan, who set a program single-match record on Tuesday with 53 assists, had 44 against Marywood, while adding eight digs, two aces, two assisted blocks and two kills.
