CAMDEN, N.J. (April 11, 2023) – Freshman right fielder
Jacob Watson stole his way into the Rutgers University-Camden baseball record books and with his accomplishment, he helped the Scarlet Raptors swipe another victory here Tuesday night.
Watson drew his 20th walk of the season to lead off the bottom of the first inning and stole second base to set a new single-season program record. His 27th steal (in 28 attempts) broke the old season mark of 26 set by Chris Godish in 2002. Moments later, he scored the first run of the game on a single by sophomore left fielder
Frankie Romond and the Scarlet Raptors were on their way to a 5-3 non-conference victory over Penn State-Abington.
The win lifts Rutgers-Camden to 17-9, including a stellar 9-1 mark in home games at the Camden Athletic Complex.
Penn State-Abington, led by former Scarlet Raptor player and first-year Head Coach Joe DiMento, falls to 12-14.
Camden tacked on two runs in the second inning when junior center fielder
Auggie Uzdanovics doubled, moved to third on a bunt single by freshman catcher
Evan Carbone, and scored on a double by sophomore first baseman
Diego Salazar. Carbone scored on a ground out by junior shortstop

The Scarlet Raptors scored their final two runs in the third inning on a walk to sophomore third baseman
Andrew Brown and a two-run home run by winning pitcher
Jack Murphy. It was Murphy's fourth home run of the season and the 15th of his career.
The Nittany Lions scored a pair of runs in the fourth inning on a walk and a two-run home run by junior catcher Justin Fogel. They added their final run in the ninth inning on a RBI single by losing pitcher Josh Baar.
Murphy (1-0) worked five innings of three-hit ball, allowing one walk and two runs, while striking out two. Senior
Jacob Brennan hurled 3.2 strong innings, allowing four hits and one earned run. He struck out four. Senior
Jared Vega nailed down his second save of the year, working one-third of an inning. After walking his first batter, he nailed down the win with a strikeout.
Baar (1-1) worked three innings for Abington, allowing six hits, two walks and five earned runs. He struck out two.
Uzdanovics went 3-for-4 with one run scored for Rutgers-Camden, while Brown was 2-for-3 with one run.
Senior second baseman Sean Doherty went 3-for-4 for the Nittany Lions.
Rutgers-Camden returns to action Thursday, hosting Stockton University in a 3:30 p.m. New Jersey Athletic Conference game.
