Brianna Kearse (Stratford, NJ/Sterling) and freshman
Kyleigh Stevenson (Carneys Point, NJ/Penns Grove) put the Rutgers University-Camden women's track team on the board with points in the hammer and the javelin, respectively, as the Scarlet Raptors competed on the first day of the New Jersey Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships Saturday at Rowan University.
Another pair of Scarlet Raptors set themselves up to collect more points for Rutgers-Camden on Sunday as sophomore
Cameron Dobbins (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) qualified for the finals in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes, while junior
Alisha Singleton (Somerdale, NJ/Sterling) qualified for the finals in the 100-meter hurdles. Both athletes earned ECAC qualifiers in those events.
The first day of the NJAC meet saw Kearse finish fourth out of 15 athletes with a hammer throw of 37.70 meters as she collected five of the six points the women's team scored on the day. Stevenson added the other point as she finished eighth of 18 athletes to lead a strong Scarlet Raptor field in the women's javelin competition. Stevenson had a throw of 32.43 meters.
Freshmen
Jordan Erskine (Barnegat, NJ/Barnegat) and
Nicole DeMarco (Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester City), meanwhile, finished ninth (31.15 M) and 13th (29.18 M), respectively, in the javelin throw. Junior
Michelle Impoco (Somerdale, NJ/Highland Regional) finished 10th of 15 in the hammer throw (32.54 meters).
The Scarlet Raptors also had a fine performance in the men's javelin, as freshman
Matt Gross (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) finished ninth of 27 athletes with a throw of 51.75 meters. Sophomore
Drew Harper (Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood), meanwhile, placed ninth of 24 in the men's hammer throw (38.93).
For the sixth meet this spring, Dobbins ran an ECAC qualifier in the 100-meter dash, finishing fourth of 20 (10.98) to qualify for Sunday's final. He also captured his fourth ECAC qualifier of the spring in the 200-meter dash (22.04), which was fast enough to leave him second of 30 athletes in the preliminaries.
Singleton qualified for Sunday's finals in the 100 hurdles, placing sixth of 16 with a personal best time of 15.27 to notch an ECAC qualifier. Singleton also tied her personal best in the 100-meter dash preliminaries, posting a time of 13.11, to finish 11th of 19 athletes. She added a personal best in the 200-meter prelims (27.18) to finish 14th of 27.
In the 400-meter dash, freshman
Nicolette Stafford (Swedesboro, NJ/Kingsway Regional) notched a personal best with a 1:02.83 clocking to finish 10th of 17. She also placed 19th of 27 in the 200-meter preliminaries (28.23). Sophomores
Shontiana Butcher (Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) and
Emoni Poteat (Sicklerville, NJ/Winslow Township) finished 21st (29.33) and 22nd (29.55) at 200 meters.
Junior
Eric Gilchrist Jr. (New Castle, DE/Christiana) added a personal best of 23.56 to finish 20th of 30 in the men's 200-meter dash preliminaries. He also finished 16th of 27 in the 400-meter preliminaries with a 52.17 clocking, while freshman
Gus Gyamfi (Willingboro/BCIT-Westampton) was 22nd in the 400 (53.84, a personal best). Freshman
Alfred Banks Jr. (Camden, NJ/Camden) finished 22nd at 200 meters (24.10) and 16th of 20 in the 100-meter preliminaries (a personal best 11.76).
Sophomore
Tom Meyer (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) added a personal best to place 25th at 200 meters (24.64).
NJAC Championships
