Box Score EWING, N.J. (Feb. 12, 2021) – Sophomore guard Julia Setaro scored all 21 of her points in the first half to spark The College of New Jersey women's basketball team over Rutgers University-Camden, 78-62, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Friday night.
TCNJ (3-0 overall and 3-0 in the NJAC) has won seven straight games against Rutgers-Camden and leads the all-time series, 61-12.
Rutgers-Camden falls to 0-3 overall and 0-3 in the NJAC.
After the two teams traded three-pointers to open the game, the Lions ran off 10 straight points, paced by a pair of treys from senior guard Ellie Cimilluca. Rutgers-Camden clawed its way back into the game with eight consecutive points, with a trey by sophomore guard
Taylor Martin cutting the deficit to 13-11 midway through the quarter.
The Lions outscored the Scarlet Raptors, 14-4, the rest of the quarter as they took a 27-15 advantage into the second quarter. Setaro paced TCNJ's first-quarter run with nine points, while Rutgers-Camden received eight points from junior forward
Kylar Coughlin.
TCNJ opened up its lead with a 20-5 run in the second quarter, holding the Scarlet Raptors scoreless for a span of 5:09 at one point while the Lions rattled off 15 straight points. By halftime, the Lions held a 47-20 lead and Setaro had 21 points on 8-for-10 shooting from the floor, including four treys. She also was 1-for-1 from the foul line.
TCNJ opened up a lead as big as 36 points (62-26) in the third quarter.
In addition to Setaro, reigning NJAC Player of the Week Shannon Devitt finished with 16 points and Cimilluca added 13 points and a big 12 assists.
TCNJ shot 30-for-73 from the floor (41.1 percent), including 13-for-37 (35.1) from three-point range. The Lions also had a 45-29 advantage off the boards.
Sophomore guard/forward
Jalissa Pitts scored a game-high 25 points for the Scarlet Raptors, with 21 coming in the second half. Coughlin notched 10 of her 12 points in the opening half and junior forward
Tiazha Jackson finished with 10 points. Pitts and Jackson led the Raptors in rebounding with seven and six, respectively. Sophomore guard
Abigail Sampona dished off a team-high four assists. Pitts led the team with four steals, and one blocked shot.
The two teams conclude their home-and-home NJAC series Saturday with a 2 p.m. game in Camden.
