WAYNE, N.J. (April 9, 2022) – After losing the opener of its New Jersey Athletic Conference doubleheader here Saturday, the Rutgers University-Camden softball team desperately needed a win to avoid falling into a tough hole in the NJAC standings.
The Scarlet Raptors got that win, exploding for seven runs in the top of the sixth inning to post an 11-1 victory after William Paterson University took a 9-4 win in the opener.
Rutgers-Camden's split leaves the Scarlet Raptors with a 5-10 record overall and a 2-4 mark in the NJAC. Paterson stands at 10-11 overall and 1-5 in conference play.
William Paterson 9, Rutgers-Camden 4
Freshman pitcher Jaelynn Miller (4-3) worked six strong innings and also went 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs to lift the Pioneers to the opening-game win. She had a two-run single in the third inning, when the Pioneers used five hits and two Raptor errors to score four runs and take the lead for good.
Rutgers-Camden scored three of its four runs in the first inning, aided by a leadoff walk to senior center fielder
Kimmy Musarra, a bunt single by sophomore catcher
Olivia Bull and an RBI double by senior shortstop

Freshman
Lindsey Rodzon (1-4) was the tough-luck losing pitcher, working 3.2 innings and allowing five hits, two walks and four runs, only one of them earned. Sophomore
Natalie Ampole hurled the final 2.1 innings, allowing seven hits, one walk and five earned runs.
Bull went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI to lead the Raptors' seven-hit attack.
Rutgers-Camden 11, William Paterson 1
The Scarlet Raptors ended the second game in the sixth inning when they exploded for seven runs on only three hits and four Paterson errors. Junior second baseman

Paterson made seven errors in the game, leading to eight unearned runs, while Rutgers-Camden had four errors.
Rodzon (2-4) hurled a complete game three-hitter for the win in the nightcap, allowing three walks and one unearned run, while striking out five.

Alexis Schauer and Petrucelli had three RBIs apiece, while Gray and Petrucelli both had two hits. Musarra scored three runs.
