Senior Spotlight: Adney Cardoza

Over the past several weeks, Rutgers University-Camden has been highlighting senior student-athletes who were denied their final athletic season when the COVID-19 pandemic cancelled their spring semester competition. In their own words, departing athletes have discussed their experiences at Rutgers-Camden.

The feature is posted every Monday and Thursday.

Today's focus is on Adney Cardoza, who was all set to begin his second year with the Rutgers-Camden men's tennis team when the season was cancelled in March. During his first season with the Scarlet Raptors, Cardoza saw action at the top three singles spots and also played first doubles. He has captured academic honors from both the Great Northeast Athletic Conference and from Rutgers-Camden, where he is a Computer Science major. Cardoza played in numerous tennis tournaments during his scholastic days in India. He also appeared in many commercials and acted in a Bollywood movie.

1.  What is your favorite memory being a student-athlete at Rutgers-Camden?

My favorite memory would be randomly meeting Coach and him asking me randomly if I play tennis – which led to me playing for the men's team.

2.  What will you miss the most?

The fun times we all had on our way to the matches and during practices.

3.  What is the best advice you have received from your coach?

Just stay calm, and play your game – especially during matches.

    4.  What is next for you? What are your future plans and goals?

Pursue higher education, post-grad.

   5.  Any special thanks, acknowledgements, or final words? (Addressing maybe your
parents, family, friends, coaches and teammates)

To the team that is going to play in future seasons, get that warm tasty bread :) (Coach will know what I am talking about, ha ha)
