GLASSBORO, N.J. (Oct. 14, 2021) – The Rutgers University-Camden volleyball team accomplished a couple of individual milestones and, for a while, threw a big scare into New Jersey Athletic Conference-leading Rowan University here Thursday night.
After winning the first set, 25-22, however, the Scarlet Raptors dropped the next three sets, 20-25, 19-25 and 20-25 as Rowan extended its winning streak to 11 straight matches. The Profs raised their record to 17-3 overall and 7-0 in the NJAC, while beating the Scarlet Raptors for the eighth straight time.
Rutgers-Camden saw its three-match NJAC winning streak snapped as it fell to 14-7 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
In the first set, the Scarlet Raptors never trailed and went on an eight-point run after the teams were tied at 1-1 to open up a 9-1 lead. Rowan cut the gap to 15-14 before the Scarlet Raptors ran off the next five points, aided by two kills from sophomore
Kaliyah Moss, both assisted by senior setter
Brinn Hassan. Leading, 24-22, the Scarlet Raptors wrapped up the victory on a Rowan attack error. Moss had six kills in the set, while Hassan had nine assists as she reached the 1,600-assist milestone for her career.
In the second set, Rowan broke open another 1-1 tie, raced to leads of 5-1 11-3 and 19-7, and hung on to wrap up its 25-20 victory. Rutgers-Camden senior libero
Morgan Fox notched her own career milestone with her first dig of the set as she reached 1,000 career digs. Fox became only the fifth Scarlet Raptor in program history to reach that total.
Rowan rallied from an 11-7 deficit in the third set by scoring six straight points to take the lead. With the score tied at 13-13, the Profs rattled off four straight points to take the lead for good.
The final set was tight all the way, but the Scarlet Raptors could never quite catch the Profs are falling behind at 2-1.
Moss finished with 14 kills, while sophomore
Dyamond Free added 10. Moss added 11 digs for her eighth double-double of the season, while collecting five assisted blocks and two aces.
With 33 assists, Hassan raised her career total to 1,624, second on the program's all-time list. She added 13 digs for her own double-double.
Fox, meanwhile, had a match-high 19 digs as she pushed her career total to 1,015. Her next target on the career ladder is current Raptor assistant coach
Cait Marchlowitz, who had 1,050 digs from 2013-16.
Sophomore
Erica Nebrich had seven kills, two aces and six digs, while senior
Delaney Kolb delivered nine digs.
Senior
Devyn Cobb collected five kills and three assisted blocks, while sophomore
Isabella Choice notched three kills, two aces and three assisted blocks.
Rutgers-Camden will honor six seniors when the team returns to action Tuesday for a 7 p.m. NJAC match against Kean University. The Senior Night honorees include Cobb, Fox, Hassan,
Savannah Hayes, Kolb and
Haley Novak.
