Immaculata lacrosse team topples Rutgers-Camden, 11-3

IMMACULATA, Penn. (March 22, 2017) – Freshman attack Layne Kennedy (Garnet Valley, PA/Garnet Valley) notched three goals and one assist in the opening half to spring the Immaculata University lacrosse team to a 6-1 lead and the Mighty Macs went on to defeat Rutgers University-Camden, 11-3, in a non-conference game here Wednesday night.
 
Kennedy scored 4:24 into the game and the Mighty Macs eventually built a 5-0 lead before the Scarlet Raptors scored their lone goal of the half with 4:17 remaining. Down, 5-0, Rutgers-Camden got on the scoreboard when sophomore midfielder Jessica Mayer (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) tallied her eighth goal of the season, assisted by freshman attack Jennie Klanchar (Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Regional). It was Klanchar's fourth assist of the year.
 
Immaculata (3-2) added another goal before the half to lead, 6-1, at the break.
 
Kennedy finished with four goals and one assist to lead the way for Immaculata.
 
In addition to Mayer, the Scarlet Raptors (2-2) received goals from sophomore midfielder Taylor Reader (Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade) and senior defender Victoria Heifet (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West). It was the team-leading ninth goal of the season for Reader, while it was the first of the year for Heifet.
 
Freshman attack/defender Kacie Walton (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington) paced the Scarlet Raptors with four ground balls and added one caused turnover. Junior midfielder Nicole Martin (Delran, NJ/Delran) had three ground balls and two caused turnovers, while sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Ennis (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington) added two caused turnovers and two ground balls.
 
Heifet, Klanchar, Mayer and junior attack Elizabeth Giordano (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) added two ground balls apiece. Heifet led the team with two draw controls.
 
Freshman goalie Caitlyn Snyder (Somerdale, NJ/Sterling) faced 32 shots and made 10 saves.
 
Rutgers-Camden returns to action Sunday with a 3 p.m. makeup game at Penn State-Abington. The game was postponed from March 16.
