Box Score

DOYLESTOWN, Penn. (March 28, 2017) – Sophomore midfielder Jessica Mayer (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) scored three goals in a 2:07 span of the first half, snapping a 2-2 tie and helping the Rutgers University-Camden lacrosse team outlast Delaware Valley University, 11-10, in a non-conference game here Tuesday night.

The victory evened the Scarlet Raptors' record at 3-3. It was the first loss of the season for the 5-1 Aggies.

The Scarlet Raptors took an early 2-0 lead on a pair of goals by junior midfielder Nicole Martin (Delran, NJ/Delran) 6:14 and 16:31 into the game. Only 14 seconds after her second goal, however, the Aggies got on the board with a tally by junior midfielder Kara Imes (Hatfield, PA/North Penn). The Aggies tied the game 3:03 later on a tally by sophomore midfielder Samantha Collyer (Rock Hall, MD/Kent County) before Mayer went on her three-goal run.

The Rutgers-Camden co-captain scored goals with 9:26, 9:04 and 7:19 left in the opening half, lifting the Raptors ahead, 5-2. After the Aggies cut the gap on another goal by Collyer, Rutgers-Camden closed out the half with goals by Martin and sophomore midfielder Taylor Reader (Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade) to hold a 7-3 advantage at the break.

Imes scored the first goal of the second half to cut the margin to 7-4, but the Scarlet Raptors bounced back on tallies by sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Ennis (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington) and Mayer to grab a 9-4 lead. Delaware Valley cut that gap to 9-6 with a pair of goals before Mayer scored her fifth goal of the game with 14:14 remaining, giving the Raptors a 10-6 advantage.

The Aggies cut the gap to 10-8 before Reader's second goal of the game, with 9:06 remaining, gave the Scarlet Raptors what proved to be the decisive goal. Delaware Valley scored a pair of goals in the last seven minutes, cutting the gap to 11-10 with 4:30 remaining. Down the stretch, however, the Scarlet Raptors didn't allow the Aggies to launch a potential game-tying shot.

Rutgers-Camden finished with a 23-20 edge in shots, while freshman goalie Caitlyn Snyder (Somerdale, NJ/Sterling) made six saves.

Senior defender Victoria Heifet (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) tied a program single-game record with 10 draw controls. That mark was set on March 27, 2013 by Elizabeth LaBar against the College of St. Elizabeth.

Mayer finished with five goals, while Martin netted three, Reader added two and Ennis had one.

Junior defender Megan Everett (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) collected a team-high six ground balls, while Ennis added five ground balls and four draw controls. Freshman defender Kacie Walton (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington) paced the team with four caused turnovers. Heifet and junior attack Elizabeth Giordano (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) both added three ground balls, with Giordano notching the team's lone assist.
