Senior Spotlight: Caitlyn Snyder

Over the past several weeks, Rutgers University-Camden has been highlighting senior student-athletes who were denied their final athletic season when the COVID-19 pandemic cancelled their spring semester competition. In their own words, departing athletes have discussed their experiences at Rutgers-Camden.

The feature is posted every Monday and Thursday.

Today's focus is on Caitlyn Snyder, who played in 45 career games during her four-year Rutgers-Camden lacrosse career, starting 42, including both games the Scarlet Raptors played during their brief 2020 season. The most versatile player on the Scarlet Raptors, Snyder was the team's goalie during her first two seasons before switching to a role as a defender/midfielder. She also ran in a cross country meet to help out the 2019 Scarlet Raptors team. Snyder ranks among the lacrosse program's career leaders in numerous categories for goalies and is 10th on the lacrosse program's career list for games played. A Social Work major, Snyder is a Dean's List student who has received many academic honors during her collegiate career.

1.  What is your favorite memory being a student-athlete at Rutgers-Camden?

My favorite memory of being a student-athlete is the Saturday morning breakfast on the bus to our games. It was always these absolutely amazing bagels.

2.  What will you miss the most?

I honestly will miss the team meals the most. (I'm a huge foodie if you couldn't tell) The lacrosse team is honestly like my second family. Those girls mean so much to me. When we all ate together it was always a good time with the most amazing people.

3.  What is the best advice you have received from your coach?

My coaches have taught me to always be the best version of myself. On the field and off. You never know who you may encounter. You have to hold yourself to a higher standard at times in order to receive the respect you deserve. My coaches also have taught me that sacrifices may hurt in the moment, but make you grow so much in the long run.

    4.  What is next for you? Any goals or future plans?

I don't really know what is next for me. I would like to take a road trip to California, but I don't really know what else. I'm open to all the opportunities and possibilities that come.

   5.  Any special thanks, acknowledgements, or final words? (Addressing maybe your
parents, family, friends, coaches and teammates)

I want to thank everyone that has helped me become the person I am today. My parents have always given me the world and I hope to give back to them. My coaches have shown me that I am capable of so much more than I originally thought. I was just a goalie when I started my college student-athlete career. I ended as a defender/midfielder, and also a cross country runner. Who knew I could do all that?! I honestly will miss playing for Rutgers-Camden so much.
